featuring Pop, Country, Jazz and Classical Musicians talking about
the value of music education.
The Why Music? PSAs have run on more than 2,000 adult
contemporary and country music stations across the nation, as well
as 30 radio networks.
Funded in part by AMC, and produced by MENC: The National Association
for Music Education, the radio spots feature such popular musicians
as Vanessa Williams, Gloria Estefan, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill, Huey
Lewis, Travis Tritt, Willie Nelson, Shawn Colvin, Richard Marx,
Vince Gill and Chely Wright. In 2001, the PSAs received a
Bronze Anvil Award for marketing excellence by the Public Relations
Society of America. The announcements also generated more than 3.3
billion media impressions.
The series is produced twice annually by MENC to coincide with
Music in Our Schools Month in March and with the traditional beginning
of school in late August (requires Quicktime).
